HEPATO-PANCREATO-BILIARY SURGERY

The unit is an established centre for the provision of state-of-the-art pancreatic cancer surgery. Referrals relating to all biliary, pancreatic and upper GI pathology are accepted and treated by the unit. The units future focus is as a specialist centre, based on the development of a program of complex laparoscopic pancreatobilliary procedures varying from laparoscopic ultrasound to laparoscopic pancreatic resections.

Benign pancreatic disease

While most established pancreatic units will deal almost exclusively with cancer, this unit has developed an ‘integrated' approach to both benign and malignant disease The UCLH hepato-pancreato-biliary unit has an established referral network for common and rare pancreatic disease, receiving patients from across the UK.

Liver

  • Open and laparoscopic resection
  • Colorectal metastases
  • Cholangiocarcinoma
  • Primary liver cancer (Hepatocellular carcinoma)
  • Hydatid liver disease
  • Benign liver disease (adenoma, haemangioma)

Pancreas:

  • Management of acute and chronic pancreatitis
  • Open and laparoscopic resection
  • Pancreatic cancer (including neuroendocrine tumours)
  • Drainage procedure for treatment of chronic pancreatitis

Gall bladder / Bile duct:

  • Open and laparoscopic resection
  • Cholangiocarcinoma
  • Biliary exploration and reconstruction
  • Distal cholangiocarcinoma

Sarcoma:

  • Open and laparoscopic resection
  • GIST (Gastrointestinal stromal cell tumour)
  • Leiomyoma, Leiomyosarcoma, Liposarcomas
